Adhinayakudu Hungama at Sattenapalli, Eswara Sai Theatre

A

Movie Review: Kittu (Balakrishna) is a professional assassin who kills only the bad people. You couldn't guess his vocation from his choice of clothes though. From over-sized pullovers and belly-tugging-shirts to ripped baggy pants and brightly-coloured inners, his wardrobe is pretty 'over-the-top' for someone who's been trained to kill from the time he was two-years-old. Looks sure can be deceptive, guess it's all about deception.

Some powerful politicians try to hire him to bump off Rama Krishna Prasad (also played by Balakrishna), the eldest son of a popular Rayalaseema leader. But Kittu learns that Rama Krishna Prasad is his father and realises that his handlers had kidnapped him and turned him into a killing machine precisely for executing this very kill. So he sets out to protect his father and find his destiny, so to speak.

Here is a little backgrounder for the plot. Harish Chandra Prasad (Balakrishna) is a much-loved leader of Rayalaseema. His sole aim is to rid the region of "factionalism" and set it on the path to development. He even manages to get international funding for a huge project that would provide jobs to at least one person from each family. But he gets murdered by his rivals. His son Rama Krishna Prasad is also a selfless leader who strives for the well-being of his people. That is where Kittu comes in.

In the end, Rama Krishna Prasad is egged on by his stepmother (Jayasudha) to emerge as Adhinayakudu (leader of leaders) and carry forward his father's legacy. Considering that Balakrishna had not so long ago declared that he would enter active politics to serve the people and carry forward the political party his father founded, this film may be construed as a showreel for Balakrishna the politician. But then why would you have him dance around wearing red cargoes and parrot green jackets?

The movie is loaded with politically-charged innuendos aimed at all and sundry — Chiranjeevi, YSR, Jaganmohan Reddy and even Gabbar Singh. So there's plenty in it to appease the hardcore fans. The rest, however, may well just struggle to see the lighter side.

Balakirshna's performance as the elderly Harish Chandra Prasad is easily the high-point of the movie. He also carries off the middle-aged Rama Krishna Prasad pretty well but looks out of place playing the youngster Kittu, dressed in outrageous clothes and dancing around trees. He could certainly use a stylist. Lakshmi Rai does a good job of playing the glam doll and villains Pradeep Rawat and Kota Srinivasa Rao do the needful. Brahmanadam's comic act is enjoyable in parts.

The screenplay is predictable and the music has a very 90s feel to it as do most other aspects of the movie. There are some moments that rise above the ordinary, but the movie as a whole leaves a lot to be desired.
