He was among the core leadership of TDP for more than two decades and was more or less the Kapu face of the party for a long time and he stuck with TDP even when Chiru created wave with PRP initially.
This leader was waiting for Rajya Sabha nomination for a long time and looking at how TDP didn't gain power for two consecutive times, he started changing tune and once he noticed Jagan wave, he immediately took the plunge. Apart from the fact that there is no much importance for him in YSRCP except that he is among the few kapu faces, sources say one reality is tormenting Umma Reddy.
For two Rajya Sabha seats under TDP's quota, Naidu reportedly decided to give for one for Kapu leader from Coastal districts and he made a desperate hunt and finally found Seetha Maha Lakshmi, who was never in the limelight. Sources say Chandrababu's internal comments with his leaders that Ummareddy would have been the obvious choice in case he remained TDP reached the leader and he is reportedly in frustration!
