Four-lane road may be delayed

The four-lane highway between Vijayawada and Hyderabad is scheduled to be completed by the first week of October.
But it’s opening is likely to be delayed further as the construction of a flyover at Suryapet and finishing works like arranging indication boards in road margins are yet to be completed.
Former union minister of state for road transport and highways Mr R.P.N. Singh set the foundation for widening 182 km-stretch of road at Narket-palli in March 2010. The minister announced that the widening of the road will be taken up at a cost of Rs.1,170 crore and would be completed by October.
Speaking to this newspaper, National Highway Authority of India project director Ms M. Sailaja said that as per schedule the road should be completed by the first week of October.
But the flyover at Suryapet and finishing works are yet to be completed. Of the total 270 km distance between Vijayawada and Hydera-bad nearly 80 per cent of the works were completed.
It may be noted that the four-lane road from Vijay-awada to Nandigama and Hyderabad to Narketpalli was completed earlier and the works are going on at a stretch of 182 km between Nandigama and Malkapuram.
At present, a toll plaza is functioning at Keesara in Krishna district. It is estimated that three more toll plazas will come up after the completion of four-lane national highway. The contractors are setting up a toll plaza at Bhimavaramgattu near Chillakallu in Krishna district within a radius of 30 km.
With this the vehicle users have to pay toll fee twice in the district.
