Water assured for Krishna delta



Admitting a crisis in the state over the separate Telangana issue, Chief Minister Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the Central government would take a decision soon to benefit the majority of people in the state.
Addressing Congress party workers at the Government Veterinary College here on Tuesday during his Indiramma Baata programme, he said that government has been facing problems in implementing welfare programmes due to regional feelings. He assured that government would protect the interests of Krishna delta farmers. He said that irrigation officials are releasing water to canals at present.
The Chief Mister said elections would be conducted for local bodies soon after clearing of legal hurdles on BC reservations. Commenting on the power crisis, the Chief Minister said that the demand for power supply stands at 270 million units, when production in gas based units came down to 45 million units. Government has been spending Rs.5,500 crore towards subsidy on power supply to farmers.
The Chief Minister said that government would announce its policy to control sand prices within one week. He said that sand would be included in essential commodities to control prices.
He said that government would purchase paddy in seven districts.
To instil confidence among party workers, the Chief Minister said that sincere party workers would get recognition without fail. He expressed confidence that the Congress would win all seats in Krishna district in the coming elections.
Some party workers expressed concern over lack of recognition for party workers.
PCC president Mr Botsa Satyanarayana said that nominated posts would be filled soon.

Siblings die after eating chocolate




Two kids died after eating chocolate given by an unknown person on Tuesday. The incident took place at Devarakota village of Ghantasala ma-ndal in Krishna district.
The deceased Sai, 6, and his sister Deepika, 3, were children of Varre Veeraswamy and Swathi.
Sources said that an unknown person gave the the poisoned chocolate to Sai when he was going home. The boy started eating the chocolate after reaching his house. On seeing this, his sister sought a share. Both the children fell asleep after eating the chocolate. When their mother Swathi tried to wake up Sai, she saw that the boy was frothing in the mouth.
The parents rushed the boy to a private hospital in Challapalli, where the doctor declared him as brought dead. When they took the body of their son back to their house, they were shocked to see that their daughter Deepika was also frothing in the mouth. They rushed her to Machilipatnam and from there to Vijayawada for treatment. However, the girl died while undergoing treatment.
Avanigadda DSP Chamundeswari Devi rushed to the village and seized eatables in a pan shop near the school and the food prepared in their house and sent them for testing. She said that after getting the reports they could find out the source of poisoning.

Suspect sheets help curb crime



City police opened rowdy and suspect sheets on 358 persons in the city in the first six months of this year in order to check various types of crimes.
The police can keep tight vigil on the movements of the suspects and rowdies once the sheets are opened. A total of 53 rowdy sheets were opened on individuals from January to June, 2012. In February, 20 cases of rowdy sheets were opened followed by 16 cases in March 2012.
Besides, suspects sheets were opened on persons creating law and order problem and those involved in criminal cases. In all, 260 law and order suspect cases were opened in the commissionerate limits from January to June and 98 crime suspect cases registered by the cops.
Persons involved in more than one offence are also facing rowdy sheet to check the criminal cases. The commissioner of police Mr N. Madhusudhana Reddy said opening of rowdy and suspect sheets are giving positive results in crime control.
Rowdy sheets are opened on the persons involved in bodily offences or physical attack.
Persons involved in property offences are also booked under the suspect sheets. Vijayawada city is notorious for cheating cases like chit fund companies closing down or applying insolvency petition (IP) without paying maturity amount to the depositors. Some persons create panic in the residential areas by beating or threatening their neighbours. This type of offences are common in the slums.
In 2011, the city police opened 75 rowdy sheets and another 209 suspect sheets. In all, 145 law and order suspect cases and 64 crime suspect cases were opened.
The commissioner also introduced mobile iris van to identify the suspects and rowdies in the city.
