Gurgaon: A young couple from Gurgaon has been arrested for allegedly beating their 17-year-old domestic help, bringing into light another case of physical abuse of children employed in households in the Delhi sub-urb.
Amit and Geeta Chawdhary, residents of Sector 57 in the Delhi sub-urb, had employed the minor boy from a placement agency in 2010. The 17-year-old boy, who ran away from their house on Tuesday, has alleged that he used to be locked alone and was regularly beaten up with hot and sharp utensils for committing mistakes.
Amit works in a private firm in Gurgaon, while Geeta is a homemaker. A case under the Juvenile Justice Act has been registered against them.
On Tuesday, the boy managed to run away from the Chawdharys' home and came to Delhi. There, the Delhi Police admitted him to the Safdarjung Hospital for treatment and then handed over the case to the Gurgaon Police. The minor boy will now be taken for a medical examination tomorrow morning.
